The Midwifery Doctorate program caters to healthcare professionals and educators seeking the highest levels of academic and professional excellence. Program Structure This innovative curriculum blends taught modules with research components, enabling students to pursue studies directly applicable to their clinical practice while advancing knowledge in their specialty and fostering career growth. Unlike traditional PhDs, this professional doctorate offers equally rigorous academic standards through its unique combination of coursework and research. During the initial two years, students enhance their expertise through specialized modules focusing on career advancement, while the research phase cultivates critical analysis skills and methodological competencies. The curriculum additionally develops transferable skills including academic writing, information management, problem-solving, and project coordination. Our program leverages the collective knowledge of distinguished faculty members from throughout the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, along with clinical specialists - many of whom are recognized as leading researchers in their respective fields nationally and internationally. The program's flexible structure accommodates working professionals by offering exit points where students may earn either a postgraduate diploma or Master's in Health Sciences before completing the full doctorate. Learning Objectives Assess and refine essential communication competencies for effective interaction at both individual and organizational levels. Examine contemporary political challenges in healthcare systems, analyzing how cultural dynamics, power structures, and political factors influence organizational communication. Evaluate fundamental aspects of successful teamwork, including conflict resolution strategies, and their application in organizational change initiatives. Develop and implement change management strategies while establishing cross-disciplinary networks to facilitate information exchange and resource sharing. Analyze leadership qualities and their practical application in driving workplace transformation. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of research principles and evaluation methodologies. Critically assess existing research to formulate practice-relevant investigative questions. Acquire expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research approaches and their clinical applications. Compare and contrast various research methodologies, identifying their respective strengths and limitations. Apply research process knowledge to develop well-reasoned justifications for methodological choices in personal research projects. Construct and defend the philosophical foundation supporting research investigations. Evaluate and select appropriate research methodologies and analytical techniques for specific studies. Design comprehensive research proposals demonstrating sophisticated conceptualization of study frameworks.
