Our combined English and Classical Studies program merges exploration of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations with the examination of English literary works across all eras, many of which echo or reinterpret classical texts and themes.
Both components of the degree allow you to pursue your personal interests through elective modules, including options to study Latin or Ancient Greek. You can explore classical art forms like epic poetry or theater alongside their contemporary counterparts in English literature. Throughout the program - leveraging the enduring influence of classical traditions on Western culture - your engagement with ancient texts will deeply enrich your understanding of later literary works.
For your final year dissertation, you may combine insights from both disciplines to explore a comparative subject or concentrate exclusively on material from either field of study.
