The MA (Hons) in English is a four-year program offered by the School of English. During the initial two years, students explore diverse literary works spanning various genres from medieval times to contemporary literature. This foundation provides comprehensive literary exposure and analytical abilities required for specialized Honours-level studies. The curriculum combines advanced, research-focused study of Classics and English, fostering an appreciation for knowledge creation and academic evolution. Students develop skills for autonomous learning characterized by curiosity, precision, and scholarly discipline. This 48-month course culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it comprises credit-based modules, requiring 480 credits total (typically 120 credits annually). The first two years feature core program modules alongside elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary courses). Subsequent years focus on specialized, research-driven study through program-specific advanced modules.
