Our MSc in Applied Psychology is a 12-month postgraduate program designed for graduates pursuing careers in academic psychology or various applied psychology fields. Delivered by research-focused faculty at our Edinburgh campus, this program builds upon our BPS-accredited undergraduate Psychology degree. You'll examine core areas aligned with Heriot-Watt's key research themes: Cognitive Neuroscience and Behavior, Health and Wellness Across the Lifespan, and Organizational and Environmental Psychology. Throughout this master's program, you'll enhance your understanding of cutting-edge psychological research and its practical applications. You'll gain expertise in evaluating psychological theories, assessing current research methodologies, and developing professional competencies in research management, data handling, and ethical practice. The curriculum emphasizes creating meaningful research through stakeholder engagement. Every module provides valuable psychological skills that enhance employability, with industry-relevant content preparing you for post-graduation success. Graduates will acquire versatile skills suitable for careers in both academic and professional psychology settings.
For MSc entry, students will typically have a 2:2 Honours Degree in Psychology or a related discipline from a BPS-accredited programme.
 
If your first language is not English, we'll need to see evidence of your English language ability. The minimum English language requirement for entry to this programme is IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent) with no score lower than 5.5 except for writing which must be at 6.0 minimum. TOEFL: 79 (including reading 18, listening 17, speaking 20, and writing 21).
