Professor Peter Woodward heads the Railway Research team, bringing more than ten years of expertise in rail track advancements. His group examines critical challenges facing contemporary rail systems, such as handling increased traffic volumes, heavier freight, and faster train speeds. These global concerns are addressed through cutting-edge, industry-focused studies conducted by the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure & Society, positioning them as UK leaders in this field. The team provides comprehensive numerical modeling and experimental testing of rail tracks under diverse simulated scenarios. With a strong track record of practical implementations, the program recently secured £500,000 in funding to further its vital investigations.
