Our MEng program delves into the core principles of chemical and process engineering. This foundation in science, mathematics, and engineering equips you with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills that are in high demand across industries. Upon completing your studies, you can further develop these competencies to pursue a career as a professional engineer. Heriot-Watt achieved top ranking in Scotland for Chemical Engineering based on overall student satisfaction in the 2023 National Student Survey, while also securing first place in Scotland and second in the UK for teaching quality and learning opportunities (NSS, 2023). The five-year MEng degree shares its initial four years with the BEng program, allowing you to select your preferred pathway at the end of year four based on your professional goals. The final year of the MEng features advanced coursework designed to expand and enhance your expertise in chemical and process engineering. Students can select from specialized engineering topics and complete a comprehensive research project. Additionally, MEng candidates participate in a commercial tender simulation, acting as an engineering design firm presenting proposals to our industry advisory board. The department covers student membership fees for the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) as part of the program. Accreditation The MEng (Hons) Chemical Engineering holds full accreditation from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) on behalf of the Engineering Council. IChemE recognition confirms the academic rigor and industry relevance of our program while offering a route to Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the Engineering Council. Career opportunities include roles as engineering professionals or business and public service associates.
