Today's paramedics provide treatment and care to patients in their local communities or homes, helping to minimize unnecessary hospital visits while also responding to emergencies. This dynamic program allows you to study alongside fellow healthcare professionals, mirroring the teamwork required in contemporary healthcare. The BSc Paramedic Science is Scotland's pioneering full-time undergraduate degree in this field. Our cutting-edge simulation lab, equipped with advanced mannequins and technology, offers realistic training led by experienced instructors from diverse clinical backgrounds. Hands-on training with the Scottish Ambulance Service, along with placements across health and social care settings, helps bridge classroom learning with real-world practice. Evaluation methods include practical tests, clinical exams, coursework, presentations, written exams, and competency logbooks for clinical placements.

Graduates of this program can apply for paramedic registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). While most paramedics join ambulance services, growing opportunities exist in various health and social care roles. Careers may also include private ambulance firms, offshore medical services, and NHS or private sector positions. Typically, new paramedics gain one to two years of experience in ambulance trusts before exploring advancement options. Scotland faces high demand for paramedics, offering strong employment prospects, though UK-wide ambulance services also recruit graduates. All UK ambulance trusts provide transition programs to support newly qualified paramedics. Third-year students also benefit from recruitment talks by Scottish Ambulance Service representatives.
