The PGCE Secondary Chemistry program prepares you to become a skilled Early Career Teacher, capable of making this hands-on subject engaging and exciting. By fostering curiosity in chemistry, you'll help students discover diverse scientific career paths that could shape tomorrow's innovators.
This qualification enables you to teach students aged 11-16, covering both Key Stage 3 and 4. Upon completing the PGCE, you'll earn a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Durham University and receive Qualified Teacher Status recommendation. The QTS component is validated by Newcastle University and granted by the Department of Education.
Our program combines academic research with practical classroom experience to launch your teaching career effectively. We integrate the Core Content Framework throughout the PGCE to ensure you're fully ready for the Early Career Framework that will guide your initial two teaching years.
Successful chemistry teaching requires both scientific knowledge and pedagogical skills. We'll help transform your subject passion into effective teaching methods, showing you how students learn science and how to structure lessons to overcome learning obstacles.
You'll develop subject-specific teaching methods through workshops led by university educators and experienced classroom teachers.
