We oversee PhD, MPhil, and Masters by Research programs, with the department's interdisciplinary focus evident in the diverse research projects pursued.
Our faculty supervisors offer guidance and accessibility while pushing students to excel as globally recognized researchers. Students actively participate in departmental life, including leading seminars, presenting at theme meetings, and gaining teaching, leadership, and committee experience. Comprehensive training in advanced research ethics, methods, and theory is provided throughout the Postgraduate Research (PGR) program. The thriving research environment enables PGRs to achieve international acclaim, with many publishing in top-tier journals. Some have authored award-winning book chapters, like the Taylor & Francis Social Sciences Handbook of the Year. Our students frequently earn prestigious awards at global conferences, including those hosted by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, the European Federation of Sport Psychology, and the European Association for Sociology of Sport. Many secure competitive grants for research, international study opportunities, and policy or industry internships. Several have even served on distinguished committees during their PGR studies, such as the UK Chief Medical Officers' Physical Activity Expert Committees for Communication and Surveillance.
