This interdisciplinary program enhances your expertise in Japanese language and cultural studies.
Each year includes a core language course. No prior Japanese knowledge is required, though an advanced pathway exists for students with A-level or equivalent qualifications.
You can select complementary Japan-related courses from various departments, including Anthropology, Education, Political Science, Economics, and Religious Studies. Optional language modules extend to European languages, Chinese, and Korean.
Your third year involves immersive Japanese language study at a Japanese university - an exceptional opportunity for cultural immersion and practical language application. The program offers an optional placement year, extending the duration from four to five years.
The culminating experience involves synthesizing your knowledge through a Japanese studies dissertation.
