This interdisciplinary program enhances your expertise in Chinese language and cultural studies.
Throughout your three years at Durham, you'll take core language courses each year. No prior Chinese knowledge is required, though an advanced pathway exists for students with A-level or equivalent Chinese qualifications.
The curriculum offers complementary China-focused modules across various departments, including Anthropology, Education, Political Science, Economics, and Religious Studies. You can also opt for supplementary language courses in European languages, Japanese, or Korean.
Your third year involves immersive Chinese language study at a university in China - an exceptional opportunity to experience the culture directly while applying your language skills in real-world settings.
The program culminates with a final-year dissertation, allowing you to synthesize your academic knowledge and cultural experiences through focused research on a Chinese studies topic.
