C-DaRE, the Centre for Dance Research, comprises an international team of researchers and postgraduate scholars located in Coventry University's Institute for Creative Cultures at the Technology Park.
Our work bridges theoretical and practical approaches, applying embodied knowledge across diverse fields. We investigate wide-ranging topics such as cultural preservation, artificial intelligence, creative rights, practice-led research, performance philosophy, archival methods, health and wellness, digital performance, somatic techniques, and critical disability studies. We foster strong ties with professional communities while participating in research networks and policy initiatives that support and advance movement arts.
C-DaRE organizes numerous academic gatherings including conferences and symposia that draw participants worldwide. Our biennial Dance and Somatic Practices conference serves as a global platform for exchanging innovative work through curated sessions, presentations, workshops, and performances. Additionally, we host the distinctive C-DaRE Invites series - each event represents a special collaborative occasion developed with staff and guest contributors. These free public events (unless specified otherwise) may feature presentations, discussions, practice demonstrations, performances, or film screenings, involving our members, postgraduate researchers, and visiting experts. Each gathering centers on themes relevant to the invitee's work, often timed to coincide with daily meals (breakfast, lunch, or tea) as we value how shared nourishment fosters dialogue and professional connections. We provide refreshments for both presenters and attendees to enjoy together during these events.
