The PGCE with QTS is an Initial Teacher Training program that qualifies graduates to teach in England's state-maintained schools.
Participants can also pursue teaching roles in private schools. This program is available for Primary education (ages 5-11 and 7-11) and various Secondary subjects (ages 11-16, 11-18). Additionally, it covers specialized subjects typically taught at Key Stages 4 & 5 for the 14-19 age group.

We maintain that the most effective teacher training occurs in school environments, guided by exceptional educators while upholding university-level academic standards.

Our unique program places you in a school throughout your training while following a university-designed curriculum created and taught by teacher education specialists.

With numerous partner schools nationwide, there's a strong possibility you can complete your training in a convenient location.

You'll receive dedicated support from both a University Tutor and an in-school mentor, ensuring you develop into a confident, highly competent educator.

During your school placement, you'll immediately apply knowledge gained through our digital curriculum, including online lessons, resources, webinars, and live tutorials. You'll join a community of fellow trainees, sharing experiences and insights through weekly online interactions and seasonal educational conferences.

Qualification Requirements

Prior experience in teaching or in schools is not a pre-requisite of acceptance onto the course. We will conduct an interview on our Whittlebury Park campus in-person or online to determine your suitability for the PGCE with QTS. To apply to the course, all trainees must: have achieved a standard equivalent to a Grade-4 (C grade) GCSE in English and Mathematics. For those training to teach pupils aged 3-11, a Grade-4 (C grade) in a Science subject is also required; hold a UK undergraduate degree or equivalent; take part in a rigorous selection process to assess their suitability to train to teach. This involves an application form, pre-interview tasks for subject knowledge, English and Maths, and an interview. Students must have undergone suitable background checks with regard to the Keeping Children Safe in Education statutory guidance, including an enhanced DBS check. The National School of Education and Teaching funds the DBS check for tuition-fee paying students. The DBS is paid for by the school for students on the employed route. Participants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in verbal and written English language equivalent to IELTS 6.5 overall with no component less than 5.5, or TOEFL 600. If you have IELTS 6.0 you may be eligible to study our online pre-sessional English course.
