Our goal is to shape you into a 'global citizen' capable of critical thinking, appreciating cultural diversity, and possessing versatile skills. The 4-year Welsh and Modern Language (BA) program enhances advanced communication and analytical abilities while building resilience and self-reliance through immersive language experiences. Throughout your studies, you'll gain deep insights into Welsh language, literature, and culture across various modules covering modern and historical texts, language policy, and translation. You'll also master written and spoken Welsh, develop creative and critical thinking abilities, and acquire professional competencies valuable in contemporary Wales. We accept students with Welsh as either their first or second language. Second-language learners receive dedicated first and second-year modules to strengthen their linguistic proficiency before joining first-language students for most second-year and all final-year courses. Your Welsh studies will be enriched by choosing one of three modern languages—Chinese, French, or Spanish—studied at either Upper Elementary (with prior A-level knowledge) or Elementary level (for beginners). You'll examine Welsh and your chosen language through global social, political, historical, and cultural lenses, with special focus on cultural diversity. Our dynamic curriculum promotes linguistic and cultural adaptability, using diverse learning materials and interactive methods to develop comprehensive reading, writing, speaking, listening, and mediation skills.
