Neuroscience represents a specialized field of study available within our Biosciences research programs (PhD, MPhil, MD). Our Neuroscience department conducts extensive neurobiological investigations, covering everything from molecular processes to behavioral patterns. Key research domains encompass: neural development, molecular and cellular neuroscience, neurophysiology, synaptic plasticity, memory formation, and neurodegenerative disorders in aging neural systems. Our goal is to combine these research efforts to enhance comprehension of normal nervous system operations and the processes underlying neurological disorders. A central aim involves applying our findings to develop pharmaceutical treatments, cellular therapies, and enhanced clinical approaches. The department participates in the Cardiff Neuroscience Centre (CNC), fostering collaboration across neuroscience, psychology, and psychiatric genetics research. Additionally, we operate the experimental MRI facility (EMRIC) and Brain Repair Group, while playing a significant role in the Wellcome Trust's 4-year Integrative Neuroscience PhD initiative.
Program durations: PhD: 3-4 years, MD: 2 years, MPhil: 1-2 years
