The use of physics principles in medical diagnosis and treatment represents a fast-growing and dynamic research area, playing a crucial role in identifying and managing various health conditions. This BSc Physics with Medical Physics program was created in collaboration with the University Hospital of Wales. Expert medical physicists from Cardiff University's School of Medicine deliver specialized course modules. The curriculum provides comprehensive physics training alongside an extensive overview of medical physics specialties. During your final year, you'll conduct a research project at the University Hospital of Wales, focusing on areas like Doppler ultrasound, MRI, electrical impedance tomography, radiation physics, and body composition analysis. You'll join a supportive academic community based in the Queen's Building complex, featuring state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls, and computing resources. Recognized by the Institute of Physics (IOP), this program delivers robust training in both physics and medical physics, preparing graduates for diverse career paths including research (academic or industrial), medical physics practice, education, and other fields requiring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, such as finance, business, and government sectors.
