The use of physics principles in medical diagnosis and treatment represents a fast-growing and dynamic research area, playing a crucial role in identifying and managing various health conditions. This BSc Physics with Medical Physics program was created in collaboration with the University Hospital of Wales. Expert medical physicists from Cardiff University's School of Medicine deliver specialized course modules. The curriculum provides comprehensive physics training alongside an extensive overview of medical physics specialties. During your final year, you'll conduct a research project at the University Hospital of Wales, focusing on areas like Doppler ultrasound, MRI, electrical impedance tomography, radiation physics, and body composition analysis. You'll join a supportive academic community based in the Queen's Building complex, featuring state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls, and computing resources. Recognized by the Institute of Physics (IOP), this program delivers robust training in both physics and medical physics, preparing graduates for diverse career paths including research (academic or industrial), medical physics practice, education, and other fields requiring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, such as finance, business, and government sectors.

Qualification Requirements

A level AAB-ABB. Must include grade A in Maths or grade B in Maths and Physics. You will need to pass the science practical element of the A-level if this is part of your programme of study. Extended/International Project Qualification: Applicants with grade A in the EPQ/IPQ will typically receive an offer one grade lower than the standard A level offer. Please note that any subject specific requirements must still be met. International Baccalaureate 34-32 overall or 666-665 in 3 HL subjects. Must include grade 6 in HL Maths or grade 6 HL Maths and Physics. GCSE Grade C or grade 4 in GCSE English Language. IELTS - At least 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each sub-score TOEFL iBT - At least 90 with minimum scores of 17 for writing, 17 for listening, 18 for reading and 20 for speaking
