What makes this course worth exploring? For centuries, humanity has relied on Earth's natural treasures - metals, minerals, fossil fuels - to construct our communities, energize our lives, and create essential technologies. As these resources become scarcer, discovering and responsibly utilizing them demands specialized expertise and advanced technology. Our Exploration Geology program reveals how Earth's geological processes form these vital resources and equips you with the skills to locate them sustainably. You'll master data interpretation, decisive problem-solving, and extensive fieldwork techniques, both on the surface and underground. Through hands-on exploration modules, you'll learn mineral identification and gain proficiency with industry-standard software and datasets. The curriculum includes crucial environmental, social, and governance considerations, with optional sustainability-focused modules covering topics like environmental geology and disaster mitigation. As a pioneer in geological education for over a century, Cardiff University offers the UK's sole undergraduate degree specializing in resource exploration. Our extensive industry network provides exceptional global placement opportunities with leading exploration organizations. Our learning environment combines academic excellence with approachable support, where you'll learn from internationally renowned researchers. The program blends theoretical knowledge with practical application through diverse teaching methods including: interactive lectures, lab sessions, field excursions, small-group tutorials, and professional workshops. We cultivate independent learning and creative problem-solving with imperfect data - skills highly prized in consulting, engineering, and risk assessment sectors.Your study abroad experience will maintain rigorous academic standards, as all partner institutions undergo thorough vetting. You'll explore different teaching methodologies at your host university, discussing these approaches during your application and study planning phases with our International Director.
