Our BA Music and Modern Language program is a four-year course that blends linguistic, creative, and practical training, preparing you for diverse career opportunities. The School of Music and School of Modern Languages strive to cultivate globally-minded individuals who think analytically, embrace cultural diversity, and possess versatile skills. You'll enhance your communication abilities, sharpen critical thinking, and build resilience through immersive language experiences, alongside optional creative music studies. For the language component, you can select French, Spanish, or Chinese, with two proficiency tracks available. Students with A-level equivalent competency follow an Upper Elementary path, examining their chosen language through social, political, historical, and cultural lenses using interactive learning methods to strengthen all language competencies. Beyond academic coursework, you can join school-led ensembles spanning various musical genres, including Jazz Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Gamelan Ensemble, and more. A key feature of this program is the mandatory overseas experience, where you can either study at a partner institution or undertake a work placement each semester. Career Preparation We equip you with the skills and confidence to thrive in today's competitive job market, whether you have defined career goals or are exploring options. Practical experience through placements significantly boosts employability and helps shape future plans. The program incorporates work placements, along with summer On-Campus Internships that develop professional skills through education innovation and research projects. Business of Music modules offer insights into the music industry and arts sector placements.
