Brunel's English program has consistently grown stronger over the past ten years, now frequently ranking among the UK's top ten English departments in the Guardian league tables. Our vibrant graduate community welcomes PhD candidates across all our specialty areas, spanning modern and contemporary literature, Shakespeare studies, Renaissance scholarship, Victorian literature and culture, and global English literature. The department boasts some of Britain's most acclaimed, skilled, innovative, and seasoned writers currently active in publishing, such as Benjamin Zephaniah, Will Self, Bernardine Evaristo, Christopher Fox, Geoff King, Fiona Templeton, and numerous others. Collectively, they've produced over 80 remarkably diverse books and contributed to all major national publications.
