UCL's Italian Studies program ranks among the UK's most extensive, featuring faculty with diverse specializations. Our department maintains robust partnerships with research centers and interdisciplinary groups across UCL, the University of London, and globally - particularly with institutions in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States. Our scholarly expertise spans from medieval times to the present day, with particular emphasis on: Dante studies, medieval texts, Renaissance culture (especially theater and women's authorship), Romanticism, modern Italian political and cultural history, linguistic studies and generative grammar, 20th-century literature, avant-garde movements, Fascism, organized crime studies, contemporary writing, film and graphic novels, as well as ecocriticism and critical theory. This MPhil/PhD opportunity caters to candidates passionate about interdisciplinary research, who may possess postgraduate qualifications and seek to deepen their critical examination of a specialized field. Ideal applicants will have academic or professional experience in Italian history, politics, literature, visual arts, cinema, linguistics, or related disciplines. The program welcomes both recent Master's graduates and established professionals seeking academic advancement.
