The full-time PGCE Secondary course spans one academic year and encompasses all subject areas.Your initial school placement starts with observation, where you'll watch your Training Mentors instruct classes you'll eventually lead. You'll gradually assume teaching responsibilities, beginning with lesson segments before taking full charge. You'll also gain insights into subject curricula, school operations, and student progression.Throughout your training, you'll receive guidance from an Academic Tutor specializing in your subject area. This mentor supports your personal and professional development while coordinating with Training Mentors and Lead Trainers to provide comprehensive assistance.Your PGCE Secondary experience culminates in developing your unique teaching identity. You'll craft original materials, establish your instructional style, and build the confidence to make your subject vibrant and engaging.During the program, you'll document and analyze your experiences, compiling evidence to demonstrate your readiness for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) recommendation.
Career prospects
Upon completing our PGCE with QTS recommendation, you can immediately launch your teaching career.We provide application and interview assistance throughout the course to ensure a strong professional start.As a beginning teacher, your employing school will offer two years of additional support. Subsequently, you might advance to roles like Department Head, Assistant Principal, Deputy or Headteacher, or transition to student-focused positions such as Year Group Leader.
In order to apply you'll need to have completed, or be in the final year of a UK degree (or equivalent qualification). You're required to have a good honours degree or above with at least 50% in French, German or Spanish. A native speaker of one of these languages would need to be a fluent and clear speaker of English and have a degree, which may be in another subject other than the first language they wish to teach.
You'll also need GCSE passes at grade 4/C or above or recognised equivalents in English and Mathematics.
Applicants must be able to offer two teachable languages, one of which must be French – at any level – and either German or Spanish. Second languages can be improved to teaching standard by the completion of a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course.
English language requirements:
IELTS Academic either 6.5 or 7.0: This must include a minimum of 5.5 or 6.0 in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. 
TOEFL iBT - This must include a total of 75, to include a minimum 18 in Reading, 17 in Listening, 20 in Speaking, and 17 in Writing.
