Develop into a proficient and adaptable 2D or 3D animator with an emphasis on visual storytelling and illustration at Cambridge School of Art, transforming your artistic vision into a fulfilling profession in animation and illustration. Our BA (Hons) Animation and Illustration program examines the relationship between these two disciplines, enabling you to craft sequential stories through diverse approaches - ranging from cutting-edge 2D digital animation, industry-standard 3D CGI, and interactive methods to conventional handcrafted imagery.
This BA (Hons) Animation and Illustration degree investigates the interplay between animation and illustration, assisting you in developing narrative sequences using multiple techniques - from contemporary 2D digital animation tools, professional 3D computer graphics, and interactive technologies to time-honored manual image creation. You'll cultivate artistic vision, technical expertise, and a distinctive style in animation, along with sequential visual storytelling for graphic novels, all while maintaining a strong focus on illustration and design principles.
Most crucially, you'll benefit from dedicated time, mentorship, and support from a faculty of working professionals, animators, and illustrators committed to nurturing your creative growth. Alongside frequent guest lectures from industry experts to motivate and advise your artistic projects, during your final year you'll also receive personalized guidance from an assigned industry mentor specifically supporting your graduating class.

96 UCAS Tariff points from a minimum of 2 A Levels (or equivalent level 3 qualifications), including Art, Design or Media subjects.
3 GCSEs at grade C, or grade 4, or above, including English.
You will be asked to provide a digital portfolio for review and will be given the option to book a meeting to discuss this with us.
If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.0 (Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
You may also be accepted to this course with an IELTS 5.5 (Academic level- with no individual score being lower than 5.5) or equivalent English Language qualification as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University, but will then be required to undertake additional compulsory free English language modules in your first year.
UCAS Tariff points acquired from BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in a related subject are accepted.
UCAS Tariff points from Access to HE Diplomas are accepted.
International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 24 points is accepted, this must include a related subject.
