Our BA (Hons) Filmmaking program is a practical, industry-focused course that cultivates versatile skills for independent film production.
Endorsed by leading professionals, this degree provides "intensive practical and career-oriented training" (Diarmid Scrimshaw, Producer 'Tyrannosaur') and develops "remarkably skilled" filmmakers (Derrin Schlesinger, Producer, 'This is England', 'Four Lions', 'Babylon'). The curriculum fosters both artistic vision and professional competencies within a collaborative learning environment.
This forward-thinking program has consistently produced graduates featured in major film and television productions. Our alumni received an Oscar nomination in 2014 and have earned more Royal Television Society awards than any other institution in the North West region.
Students concentrate on creative and technical growth across multiple formats including narrative films, documentaries, short films, and feature productions. The program also examines film theory, analyzing cinematic language, historical influences, and philosophical foundations that shape contemporary filmmaking practices.
Our alumni frequently contribute to significant film and television projects while earning recognition at top-tier festivals and the Royal Television Society.
Notable guest speakers have included Jan Harlan (Stanley Kubrick's Producer), Baldwin Li (Independent Film Producer), Sarah Miller (Screenwriter), and Jonathan Stenton (Editor).
Our faculty brings diverse expertise spanning short films, features, documentaries, experimental cinema, animation, post-production, sound design, and visual effects.
