Game Art and Animation represent specialized professional fields within the gaming sector, requiring diverse creative, conceptual, and technical abilities. This practice encompasses various areas including 2D digital artwork, 3D modeling and sculpting, photogrammetry, graphic design and illustration, interface design, keyframe animation, motion capture, along with technical arts and scripting.

For research purposes, Abertay offers specialized guidance combining academic expertise and industry knowledge to support practice-led investigations in Game Art and Animation. Potential research extends beyond gaming applications—such as refining content creation processes—to other uses including applied gaming, visualization, and cultural heritage initiatives.

Qualification Requirements

The minimum entry requirement for all our research degrees is an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) at undergraduate level in an appropriate discipline and/or a Master's degree.

IELTS Academic: total 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component.
TOEFL-iBT (including Home Edition): total 92 with at least 20 in each component. We do not accept TOEFL My Best Score to meet our English language requirements.
