This represents a possible field for research degrees, pending University approval. Prospective students interested in pursuing research in this discipline should consult with the Dean to review their proposed study.
The Division of Psychology and Forensic Sciences at Abertay plays a significant role in facilitating research degrees, including collaborative programs with the NHS, regional education authorities, Police Scotland, as well as business and digital technology sectors.
As part of the Scottish Graduate School for Social Sciences, Abertay's psychology researchers work across disciplines with peers from other academic departments. The university specializes in psychophysics and vision science, numerical cognition, language acquisition and processing, comparative and evolutionary psychology, forensic and investigative psychology, social psychology and self-perception studies, laterality, cognitive neuroscience, and dance and movement perception.
Abertay provides a well-equipped psychology research environment featuring nine dedicated faculty members, specialized research laboratories, and experimental cubicles. Facilities include high-performance computers with specialized software (E-prime, Superlab, N-Vivo, Paradigm, SPSS, Observer XT) and advanced hardware such as an anechoic chamber, remote-controlled CCTV systems, SMI 3.0 and X HED Eye-Trackers, GSR, EEG and tCDS equipment, and the BioHarness Telemetry System. Researchers also benefit from access to virtual reality labs and other digital technologies through interdisciplinary partnerships.
Our research programs equip graduates for careers in academia, research, and various professional fields beyond the university setting.
