If you already hold a Bachelor's degree and are looking to transition into Nursing, the Master of Nursing Practice program allows graduates from diverse academic backgrounds to qualify for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse. This program equips you to address the healthcare requirements of Midland and Aotearoa communities, with special emphasis on achieving equity for Māori and Pacific populations, mental health and addiction services, and primary/community healthcare.
Developed in collaboration with Waikato District Health Board and its clinical partners, our nursing curriculum blends rigorous academic training with practical experience in real healthcare environments from the outset. The program prioritizes equity, wellbeing, and Māori/Pacific health, offering specialized pathways in mental health and addiction studies.
Practically speaking, you'll split your time between our Hamilton university campus and healthcare facilities throughout the Waikato region, mentored by seasoned registered nurses and healthcare experts. Our faculty includes active researchers who are transforming healthcare delivery both in New Zealand and globally, employing innovative teaching approaches to prepare future nurses for tomorrow's healthcare challenges.
Upon completing this two-year master's program, you'll be fully prepared to deliver exceptional care to all New Zealanders, whether in urban or rural settings, at home or in hospitals, or dealing with mental or physical health conditions.
Candidates for the Degree must have
In exceptional circumstances, based on academic merit or relevant experience, candidates who do not meet the requirements of these regulations may be considered for admission subject to the completion of any qualifying papers the Academic Board may prescribe which must be completed either prior to or concurrently.
