To qualify for the Master of Medical Science (MMedSc) program, candidates need either a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours (BMedSc(Hons)), a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB), or another medical qualification approved by the Otago Medical School Academic Board, such as an MBBS. Additionally, applicants must meet New Zealand's university entry requirements, which could involve securing the right visa from New Zealand Immigration Services—more details are available on the International Office website. The MMedSc is a one-year full-time research-based degree (or part-time equivalent) focusing on a supervised medical science project. Typically, students complete their studies within one to two years of full-time equivalent work, though extensions may be granted with approval from the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences).
