Dental technology represents the technical aspect of dentistry where professionals craft devices to enhance patients' appearance, speech, or chewing function. As vital members of the dental team, technicians apply their knowledge of dental materials and fabrication expertise to reconstruct teeth. Working behind the scenes in dental laboratories, these specialists create artificial teeth and removable orthodontic devices without direct patient interaction.
This field operates internationally, with skilled dental technicians being highly sought-after worldwide. New Zealand-trained technicians are particularly valued by international employers due to their advanced expertise. Across New Zealand and Australia, commercial dental laboratories employ these professionals, serving private practices, military dental units, hospitals, and public dental health programs.
