Enroll in Massey's distinctive Bachelor of Science (Microbiology) program to investigate and comprehend microorganisms in diverse environments, from soil and air to the human body. Microbiology serves as a fundamental scientific discipline that enhances our knowledge of environmental microbes, including those found in earth, atmosphere, water sources, food products, and within living organisms. This field influences numerous sectors, including agriculture - where gut microorganisms play vital roles in dairy production while contributing significantly to New Zealand's carbon footprint; biosecurity - where protecting native species like kiwi birds and kauri trees requires specialized management of harmful microbes. Microorganisms also serve as research models for broader scientific inquiries, such as investigating cancer origins or developmental abnormalities. Additionally, they contribute to sustainable technologies by creating biological materials for medical applications and converting solar energy into renewable fuels.
