The Structured PhD in Politics is a full-time, four-year program aimed at equipping students with the skills to pursue careers as professional political scientists. This program integrates in-depth training in political science research methodologies with focused study in one or more specialized areas, culminating in an original research thesis.
The coursework portion is primarily completed during the first year, featuring required classes in Research Methods, Comparative Politics, and Contemporary Political Theory, along with customized modules aligned with students' academic interests and research development. Participants may choose to graduate after this phase with either a Graduate Diploma in Politics or (upon submitting a dissertation) a Master's degree in Politics.
After finishing the coursework, students undertake a significant original research project under faculty guidance. The Department of Politics and Public Administration especially encourages applicants interested in research areas that align with the department's established expertise.
