The Master of Arts in Public History and Cultural Heritage offers an organized academic framework for studying applied history. This program prepares students with essential knowledge and versatile skills to interpret and apply history in public spheres beyond traditional academic environments. It blends theoretical, methodological, and hands-on modules while addressing current topics in public history and cultural heritage. Participants also receive instruction on scholarly, practical, and ethical dimensions of historical investigation and communication.
The MA in Public History and Cultural Heritage is available as a one-year full-time or two-year part-time postgraduate program (online/blended). Instruction incorporates contemporary educational approaches such as dialogic learning, active inquiry, community engagement, creative problem-solving, media proficiency, reflective practice, and independent study. Students earn an internationally-recognized postgraduate credential in this innovative historical discipline.
The online/blended format accommodates learners unable to attend in-person, especially international students keen on exploring Irish public history and cultural heritage while benefiting from an Irish university education, as well as professionals in the field. Some global participants opt for temporary residence in Ireland for research or placements (though optional), during which they may study on-site and receive support securing local work experience if desired.
