This distinctive two-year Master's program is tailored to each student's individual requirements, designed for exceptional string players as the ultimate preparation for a professional career. The curriculum enhances solo, chamber, and orchestral performance abilities along with audition readiness, while fostering a deeper understanding of physical awareness, creativity, and comprehensive musicianship. Participants are guided to discover their unique artistic journey toward achieving their highest musical aspirations.
Presented in collaboration with the acclaimed Irish Chamber Orchestra (ICO), the Irish World Academy's Master of Arts in Classical String Performance embodies the ICO's dynamic approach to innovative chamber music. This philosophy forms the foundation of the MA program, which is directed by ICO's lead musicians who mentor, rehearse, and perform alongside students. Participants benefit from personalized weekly instruction, technique masterclasses, chamber music sessions, and specialized workshops.
The program provides expert training across diverse performance disciplines, including audition strategies, orchestral repertoire, baroque and contemporary styles, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, embodied performance techniques, and practical professional skills. Regular collaborative sessions with pianists feature intensive coaching on duo sonata repertoire.
Beyond fundamental training, students can choose from an array of elective options spanning multimedia arts, improvisation, Irish traditional music, gamelan, somatic practices, composition, and other creative disciplines.
