The Certificate in Music and Dance is a level 6 qualification from the University of Limerick's Irish World Academy, designed as both a progression and access pathway. This full-time, one-year course will be available in the upcoming Academic Year, with future plans to introduce a part-time two-year option incorporating blended and distance learning. Distinct from other music and dance programs, this certificate serves as a gateway to second-year entry in all BA degrees at the Irish World Academy, spanning Voice, Contemporary Dance, Irish Dance, World Music, and Irish Music.
Over one intensive year, students will complete 10 modules through lectures, seminars, workshops, and masterclasses, developing skills across all music and dance genres.
Beyond performance enhancement, this qualification creates opportunities for advanced study.
Graduates meeting the required standards may progress directly to second-year undergraduate programs at the Irish World Academy, subject to available places and assessment of both performance and academic results. The curriculum emphasizes music literacy, ensemble work, arrangement techniques, and song/dance training, preparing students for diverse educational settings as both soloists and group performers. Dancers will engage in ensemble work, choreography, and movement studies.
The program also cultivates essential academic, literacy, and presentation skills valuable across multiple professions. Participants will refine existing performance capabilities while acquiring new skills in areas like keyboard and composition, potentially leading to performance careers. Additional career prospects include arts administration and media-related fields.
