Applicants should be skilled vocalists, though formal music qualifications (such as Leaving Certificate Music or vocal grade exams from boards like the Associated Board or Royal Irish Academy) are not mandatory. Vocalists will explore diverse musical styles and may have performance experience in areas like popular music, songwriting, musical theater, or choral singing. An audition will assess vocal ability.
This program equips students with professional vocal performance skills across various contexts. It combines academic study with artistic practice, examining singing's role in educational, social, community, and health environments. Students explore performance traditions and scholarly approaches to expand their musical understanding and creative capabilities. Vocational modules help transform artistic and academic development into rewarding career opportunities.
Students benefit from the Irish World Academy's state-of-the-art facilities, featuring advanced performance spaces and technical resources. The cooperative education component offers customized work experience, providing practical insight into post-graduation opportunities. Graduates pursue diverse paths including performance, arts education, postgraduate research, cultural sector roles, media positions, archival work, production, or innovative career combinations.
An alternative entry pathway exists through the Certificate in Music and Dance. Direct applicants to the University of Limerick who successfully complete this one-year certificate may progress to the second year of the degree program.
