This interdisciplinary program offers students a comprehensive understanding of environmental, health, and sustainability challenges in both urban and rural settings. The curriculum blends ecological, health, and sustainability concerns while examining their interplay in natural and constructed environments. Drawing from Environmental Science, Engineering, and Economics, the course delivers research-focused learning experiences that cultivate abilities to recognize and assess sustainable approaches to real-world environmental issues. Practical field visits to learn from industry experts form a crucial component of this program. Open to students from diverse academic backgrounds, this course merges theoretical knowledge, policy studies, and hands-on experience to equip graduates with the expertise required for successful careers in sustainable environment management. Through introductory lectures, on-site visits, and practical exercises, students develop a knowledgeable, inventive, and solution-oriented mindset. The program prepares participants for roles in environmental consulting, policy formulation, or advanced research.
The course aims to foster a systematic, well-informed, and adaptive methodology for addressing environmental and land-use challenges. It incorporates a global viewpoint to encompass both emerging research discoveries and contemporary national/international sustainability standards applicable in Ireland and beyond.

Career Prospects
Qualified graduates can explore diverse career paths across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Employment opportunities include positions in environmental, agricultural-environmental, and sustainability consulting firms, or as corporate sustainability specialists. Graduates may also secure roles within various levels of government administration. Additionally, this qualification provides a foundation for pursuing further academic research.
Places are limited (15) and selection is based on each candidate’s academic record/relevant experience, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.
Applicants must have a primary degree with a second class honours, or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Relevant disciplines include science, marine science, engineering, environmental science, geography, social science, health promotion, engineering, economics or other related disciplines.
Applicants who do not have an academic background and have relevant experience are welcome to apply. They may be required to attend an interview.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
