Biostatistics focuses on planning, evaluating, and understanding data from clinical trials, disease research studies, diagnostic assessments, and medical imaging analyses. This work is conducted in partnership with the HRB Clinical Research Facility at University of Galway. Graduates will gain the necessary skills to pursue careers as statisticians in government or industry, or to advance to PhD studies in Biostatistics.
The institution maintains a strong tradition of outstanding and creative teaching approaches. Faculty members have received four Presidential teaching honors and earned numerous additional nominations. The curriculum includes courses and degree programs across various mathematical disciplines, applied mathematics, statistics, and bioinformatics. Alumni frequently praise the quality of instruction and programs, with graduates achieving remarkable career success.
Candidates for the degree of PhD or MSc by research must have reached a high honours standard (minimum [H2.2 or equivalent international qualification] for an MSc) at the examination for the primary degree or presented such other evidence as will satisfy the Head of School and the College of his/her fitness.
English Language Requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component; Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE): 176 overall; Cambridge C2 Advanced (CPE): 180 overall; TOEFL: 88 overall (7 Listening, 16 Speaking, 18 Writing, 8 Reading); Pearson PTE: 61 overall, no less than 48 in any one component.
