The department promotes research in both Continental and Analytic philosophical traditions. Key focus areas for postgraduate studies include post-Kantian and modern Continental philosophy, aesthetics, and bioethics. The hosted Centre for Bioethical Research and Analysis (COBRA) particularly welcomes investigations into bioethics and professional ethics. Our Continental philosophy expertise spans Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Phenomenology, Philosophy of Art and Culture, and Philosophy of Religion. We additionally encourage postgraduate research in Political Philosophy, Modern Philosophy (encompassing both early and late periods), Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Psychiatry, Philosophy of Mind, and Irish intellectual thought.

Qualification Requirements

Successful applicants will hold a primary degree, or equivalent qualification, or for PhD a Masters degree at Second Class Honours, Grade 1 level or above, or GPA level 3.3 or above, or equivalent international qualification, in philosophy or a cognate discipline.

IELTS - 6.5 overall, no less than 5.5 in any one component.
TOEFL IBT - 88 overall 7-11 Listening, 16-17 Speaking, 18-20 Writing, 8-12 Reading
