The Arts with Children’s Studies program stands as Europe's sole degree that allows students to blend an Arts education with a focus on Children’s Studies. This unique program lets students pursue two conventional arts disciplines alongside Children’s Studies at the undergraduate level. The specialized knowledge gained through this BA equips students to pinpoint career paths aligned with their skills and aspirations.
It serves as an ideal foundation for professions in secondary education, social care, advocacy, creative arts, teaching, and community development. The degree also offers strong preparation for postgraduate studies in fields like social work, play therapy, and speech-language pathology, with graduates frequently securing spots in these competitive programs.
Alumni have gone on to work in speech therapy, play therapy, social services, and policy-making, along with teaching and educational support roles both in Ireland and internationally.
Career Prospects
Graduates earning a BA with Children's Studies not only obtain a standard Arts degree but also develop a comprehensive grasp of childhood's sociocultural dimensions—particularly how legal, social, and educational frameworks impact young lives. This training supports careers in social care, family support, advocacy, creative arts, education, healthcare, and community development. Available opportunities vary significantly based on the two complementary subjects chosen alongside the specialization.
Minimum Grade H5 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at O6/H7 level in the Leaving Certificate including Irish, English, another language, and three other subjects recognised for entry purposes.
