Cities and their infrastructure are exerting unprecedented pressure on global ecosystems, while also serving as crucial arenas for climate initiatives. The MSc in Architecture, Urbanism and Climate Action (MAUCA) program prepares graduates and career professionals with specialized expertise to address the urgent need for resilient, sustainable urban planning and design. The School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy (APEP) integrates four essential disciplines to deliver an exceptional postgraduate education.
Key curriculum components focus on advancing understanding of climate science, policy frameworks, geographic information systems, systemic approaches, and environmental ethics, while cultivating practical abilities for eco-conscious, equitable architectural and urban development. Elective courses draw from diverse UCD departments including Architecture, Planning, Environmental Policy, Geography, Biosystems Engineering, Economics, and Law. During the summer term, students complete a Linked Research Project with three pathways: conducting independent academic research, joining a significant EU or national research initiative at UCD, or interning with industry leaders in sustainable construction and urban planning. Numerous graduates have secured permanent positions with their research partners or host organizations.
