In our modern, fast-evolving society marked by climate challenges, financial instability, energy concerns, and swift urban expansion, urban planners must design spaces that balance ecological sustainability with economic vitality, community well-being, and equitable development. This intensive one-year planning program equips students with both theoretical foundations and hands-on expertise needed to navigate today's intricate planning landscape. The curriculum explores the legal, governmental, and policy structures governing spatial planning, along with addressing societal, political, economic, and ecological issues in the field. Participants will gain practical competencies in policy formulation, environmental analysis, commercial zoning evaluation, community engagement techniques, project coordination, and geographic information systems. The program also examines planning's crucial function in sustainable development and public governance, offering select students the chance to pursue specialized research or competitive internship placements. Recognized globally for excellence in planning research, UCD's School of Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy ranks among the world's top 150 institutions in its field according to QS rankings and holds membership in the prestigious Association of European Schools of Planning.
