In our modern era marked by complexity and swift transformations, planners must address pressing issues like climate change, economic instability, energy security, and rapid urbanization. Their task is to design spaces that balance ecological sustainability with economic vitality, livability, and equitable resource distribution. This intensive one-year planning program equips students with both theoretical foundations and hands-on skills needed to navigate these multifaceted challenges. The curriculum covers the legal, administrative, and policy contexts of spatial planning, along with the socioeconomic and environmental issues impacting the field. Participants will gain practical expertise in policy development, environmental and retail assessments, community engagement techniques, project management, and geographic information systems. The program also explores planning's role in public policy and sustainable development, offering competitive research or internship placements. Recognized globally, UCD's School of Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy ranks among the world's top 150 institutions in its field and holds membership in the Association of European Schools of Planning.
