University College Dublin provides two postgraduate programs in creative writing: an MA and an MFA. The MA curriculum features workshops, seminars, and one-on-one supervision, offering dedicated students the guidance required to complete a substantial writing project by the program's conclusion.
The MA in Creative Writing continues the UCD School of English, Drama and Film's longstanding tradition of nurturing emerging literary talent. The institution has historic ties to Ireland's most celebrated authors, such as James Joyce, Flann O'Brien, Mary Lavin, Anthony Cronin, John McGahern, Neil Jordan, Conor McPherson, Marina Carr, Colm Tóibín, Emma Donoghue, Maeve Binchy, and numerous others. Booker Prize-winning author Anne Enright serves as Professor of Creative Writing, while the faculty includes novelist Sarah Moss, poet Ian Davidson, poet and novelist Paul Perry, playwright Declan Hughes, biographer Catherine Morris, and novelist Paula McGrath.
The MA program:
• Enables students to cultivate their creative writing abilities under the mentorship of internationally recognized, published faculty
• Actively promotes the refinement of self-editing skills
• Grounds writing practice in current theoretical approaches and methodologies
• Includes courses utilizing rare manuscripts from Special Collections and materials from UCD's National Folklore Collection, among the world's most extensive archives of oral traditions
