You alone possess the ability to craft the book you envision—whether poetry, essays, a novel, or a memoir—as no one else can bring that unique work to life. The MA in Creative Writing at UCC equips you with the skills to write not only the book yearning to be told but also future works. Beyond refining writing techniques, our program immerses you in the publishing world and prepares you for diverse career paths, from publishing to the arts.

Through weekly interactions with established authors and industry experts, we connect you with Cork’s vibrant literary community and the broader writing world. This program grants dedicated writing time, introduces you to fellow emerging writers, and unites you with peers on similar creative journeys. Our goal is to help you unlock your most imaginative and prolific potential.

The MA Creative Writing is delivered by UCC’s Department of English, within the College of Arts, Celtic Studies & Social Sciences (CACSSS).

Our English Department views writing as a dynamic, evolving art. Students engage with literature as it’s performed, adapted, and transformed, providing a nurturing environment to hone their craft and discover original voices. The program fosters deep creative exploration while maintaining a practical focus on professional development.
