The UCD School of Psychology PhD program offers students an exceptional graduate research and training experience. This degree delivers advanced specialization in either applied or experimental psychology research, ideal for those pursuing careers in academia, teaching, or industry research roles.

Doctoral students receive guidance from faculty supervisors along with additional program support to navigate their research journey and accomplish both academic and career goals. The fundamental aim remains producing significant, original contributions to knowledge, typically resulting in published scholarly work.

Full-time PhD completion generally requires 3-4 years (9-12 trimesters), while part-time study may extend up to 6 years (usually 15-18 trimesters). Degree assessment involves submitting a comprehensive research thesis followed by an oral defense examination (viva voce).

Direct entry to the PhD programme requires candidates to have obtained An upper secondclass honours in a Masters degree Or at least three years experience in a field relevant to your PhD topic Without a graduate degree successful applicants will be first registered to the MLitt research degree with a view to transferring to the PhD programme after one year English Language Requirements Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 7.0 no band less than 6.5 in each element or equivalent
