The PhD program requires at least three years of research, culminating in a 100,000-word thesis that offers new insights to the field. Students can pursue this research degree in Classics either full-time or part-time.
While focused on independent research, the program includes structured research training, Latin or Greek language courses tailored to each student's level, and seminar participation.

Currently, 7 PhD candidates are enrolled in the School of Classics. Research students benefit from a designated workspace and a comprehensive collection of reference texts. UCD provides excellent Classics research resources, and postgraduate students can additionally access other Dublin libraries.
