The School of Histories and Humanities brings together the Departments of Classics, History, Art and Architectural History, along with the Centre for Gender and Women's Studies. With 36 full-time faculty members, the School maintains a global research reputation across diverse fields such as archaeology, philosophy, ancient languages, historical periods from Classical to Modern, art history, and gender studies. Our postgraduate community includes 96 research students and 107 enrolled in taught programs. Faculty members emphasize research-driven instruction, value student input, and encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The School frequently organizes international conferences and operates six prominent research seminars, creating platforms for global scholars and graduate students to share findings and discuss ideas. Additionally, the School contributes significantly to several of Ireland's premier research institutions. Eight such centers operate within the School: the Trinity Irish Art Research Centre, Medieval History Research Centre, Early Modern History Centre, Contemporary Irish History Centre, Irish-Scottish-Comparative Studies Centre, War Studies Centre, Gender and Women's Studies Centre, and Mediterranean-Near Eastern Studies Centre.
Postgraduate work in Trinity College Dublin is very academically challenging and as a result the University has high academic entry requirements. Applicants will need to hold at least a 2.1 honors degree from an Irish university or equivalent result from a university in another country; a fluent command of the English language. Display a high level of competence in the English language in one of the examination systems recognised by Trinity College Dublin.
