Our NEW MSc in Microbiome Science, crafted by UCC's School of Microbiology, addresses the growing needs of both academic and industrial sectors in microbiome research.
This one-year program blends microbiology with computational biology, combining hands-on training with cutting-edge theoretical knowledge. Students will explore microbiome science's societal impact while developing professional competencies like data analysis, technical expertise, and effective communication through written and oral presentations.
With UCC's leadership in microbiome research through its School of Microbiology and APC Microbiome Ireland, this MSc program offers unparalleled insights into microbiomes' roles in health, disease prevention, and environmental sustainability. The curriculum covers essential microbial physiology, metabolism, and phylogeny concepts needed for interpreting microbiome data, along with comprehensive training in computational analysis techniques.
Graduates will be in high demand across industries, equipped with the expertise to bridge the gap between laboratory research and practical applications in clinical and industrial settings.
Applicants must have at least a Second Class Honours Grade I in a primary honours degree (NFQ, Level 8) in the biological sciences including, but not limited to, microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.
Consideration under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be given to applicants who do not meet the minimum academic entry requirements as stated above but who present with significant and directly relevant experience such as in industry or research.
