The MSc programs offer specialized studies in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Analytical Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Analysis. These courses deliver comprehensive theoretical understanding and practical experience with contemporary analytical instrumentation. Core components include separation science, sensor technology, spectroscopic methods, chemometrics, instrument operation, and an intensive research project. Participants can focus on their preferred specialization, with outstanding graduates having the opportunity to progress to PhD studies. The one-year Environmental Analytical Chemistry program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies for careers across various industries needing analytical proficiency. The program structure features six months of classroom instruction, hands-on lab work, career development sessions, industry seminars, facility tours, followed by a six-month research placement (available in industrial, research, or international settings).
Developed through collaboration between academic faculty and industry advisors, the curriculum ensures graduates acquire skills valued by employers. Participants may conduct their research project either domestically or internationally within industrial or academic settings. Additionally, students can showcase their findings at the annual George Guilbault Symposium, an industry-sponsored event featuring competitive awards for exceptional research presentations.
Candidates must have obtained at least a Second Class Honours in a primary honours degree (NFQ, Level 8) or equivalent in a subject(s) related to that of the MSc programme.
The number of places is limited and selection will be made on the basis of the candidate's performance in his/her primary degree. Graduates with equivalent qualifications in related areas of science and technology, or with proven and relevant industrial experience can be considered under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for places following interview and assessment.
