The Master of Engineering Science in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering is available as either a part-time program spanning 24 to 60 months or a full-time option completed within 12 months, both starting from initial enrollment.

Designed primarily for working professionals, the part-time format delivers instruction through intensive full-day sessions held every few weeks, typically on Saturdays. Full-time students attend the same lecture schedule but complete all required coursework and research within a single academic year, while part-time learners spread these components across two years.

This program offers specialized training for the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sectors, enhancing professional skills through modules covering critical industry topics like containment systems, particle technology, production facility design, cGMP standards, cleanroom engineering, aseptic processing systems, utility infrastructure, and process validation methodologies.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must have a BE (Hons) or BEng (Hons) Degree or equivalent engineering qualification, with a minimum Second Class Honours Grade II, or a level 8 BSc degree, with a minimum grade Second Class Honours Grade II, where the BSc graduate has a recognised qualification in Process or Chemical Engineering (e.g. the Diploma in Process and Chemical Engineering at UCC or equivalent).
However, applicants with equivalent academic qualifications and suitable experience may be accepted subject to the approval of the Programme Director under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). In all cases, the course of study for each applicant must be approved by the Programme Director.
