The Higher Diploma in Arts (Politics) is designed for graduates seeking an intensive one-year full-time or two-year part-time study of political science (daytime classes). As a conversion program, it's ideal for students without prior honors-level political studies.
This qualification serves graduates who may later pursue a master's in political science (without relevant undergraduate specialization) or wish to expand their academic credentials with political expertise.
The Politics Higher Diploma comprises 60 credits. Core requirements include two essential courses developing research and analytical capabilities:
PO2001 Political Analysis (5 credits)
PO3001 Dissertation (10 credits)
Additionally, students complete 5 credits from each departmental subject area in both second-year (15 credits total) and third-year (15 credits total) offerings. The remaining 15 credits can be selected from any second or third-year modules, schedule permitting, enabling students to tailor their diploma to specific political interests.
It is intended for those who already have a 3 or 4 year primary degree, preferably in the area of Arts or the Sciences, and who wish to study the subject Politics intensively over one academic year. The Higher Diploma in Arts is a conversion programme and applicants would not normally have studied the relevant subject to Honours Degree level previously.
